I mean, my anxiety isn't that my comment will make me look bad, it's that I'll accidentally say something that makes the writer think their fic is terrible and I hated it and I'll ruin their whole experience. It's not necessarily all about me. (I mean, obviously, not commenting at all has the same problem, but tell that to anxiety.)

And this is what makes 'just say "Thank you, I liked it!"' useless advice for my anxiety, because there are plenty of people who will take that kind of comment to mean "I hated it but I'm being polite".

Sure, in some way all anxiety is self-focused, because your own anxiety becomes the main thing you're thinking about.

But "I hope I don't hurt anybody" really isn't a selfish thought, anon.
