Re: AO3 Question

Hmm, ok. I wonder why would some want to backdate it, I can't think of a reason for that.

Porting in an old fic they wrote from before A03 was a thing. Writing styles have DEF changed, and it makes more sense to have a fic from the 90s have the correct round-about date.

That would make sense, but the date's fairly recent, like within the last month...I think it might've been the date it was first posted. But I guess they could've backdated the second chapter, and then that would keep the rest from automatically updating, right? Maybe they just want it to keep the same date it was first posted for some reason.

I don't know, I'm putting way too much thought into this lol.

If you've got a lot of fic you're uploading from somewhere else, or if you're uploading pre-Ao3 old fic, you might not want the dates on it being the current ones. More of an archive function.

As someone else in the thread said, it could have been ported in from another site.

Also - if something was originally posted in a Gift Exchange, and didn't get revealed 'til the Exchange opened, it would be way, way, way down in the feed by the time anyone could look at it. It's considered acceptable to redate a fic to the time the Exchange opens (or, some people wait until it's off anon).

I would strongly advise *against* redating a fic outside of adding a new chapter or the above situations, though.

In addition to the things already stated, someone might just not want their fic to show up at the top of the most recent fics for a given pairing?
