I'm there with you, OP, except from the other direction-- I'm glad EU got turned into Legends and fossilized all my favorite characters, because by the end (was it Legacy of the Force? Fate of the Jedi?) I felt like they were being so misused that I hated to even think what fresh hell they were going to be put through next.

And given how Alphabet Squadron went, I'm glad none of my beloved Wraiths were anywhere near how the current EU seems to be doing pilots. I have my memories and dog-earred paperbacks, and that's enough.

If any of them were to be imported into new canon, I feel like it would be a monkey's paw situation that would only end in tears.

Hard same. I loved the old EU. But I hated the New Jedi Order and just about everything that followed. In my opinion the characters were already ruined and it was much better to start fresh.
