Yeah, I get what you mean. When I was young, I think a lot of young adults and teens became more comfortable with gay men being normalized in every day culture due to "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy". There were a lot of problematic things about this approach (gay men are expected to be well put together, gays only exist to support the straights!, the tips weren't always that great) but it did help break down barriers somewhat.
