But in the UK?

Bjork, Radiohead, PJ Harvey and Massive Attack from the list above? (Bjork is Icelandic but recorded in the UK). And 95% of the trip hop scene.

But…but…Mr. Blobby?

I’m checking the year in British music wiki page, and Nirvana had some chart success with In Vitro, but it wasn’t as big as say Meatloaf’s Bat Out of Hell II or Take That’s Everything Changes. But I’m just looking at stats on a wiki page.

I mean, grunge and Brit-pop was just about to explode, plus there’s always going to be an organic underground scene, no matter where someone is, for and genre of music. It might be an idea to research into British music media like Q magazine & Spin to get a better idea of the lay of the land, at least from the perspective of the British music press at the time. I don’t know. I don’t know if you’re British, but if you are, it might be an idea to ask someone who would’ve been in there pubcrawling years around then.

I was alive at this time. The charts do not reflect what everyone was actually listening to.

They are almost certainly a better reflection of what people were listening to than your anecdotal memories
