Pterry's dwarf characters are three-dimensional, with flaws and virtues just like the other characters have. He wrote them as people.

Rowling... doesn't.

It's his nickname - it was from a usenet forum long ago that Pterry was actually on, and people used "Pterry" like the names Ptracy and Pteppic in Pyramids, as a play on Terry P. And it stuck.
