I think it would be good to tell your friend. Chances are your friend will be excited to squee with you that you both have the same fave! If not, maybe not a friend worth having around. I mean, if I made a friend and they out of the blue were like, "You know your fave that you rant about all the time? Well, they've been my fave for the past 2 years." I'd freak out and want to hear the whole history of my friend's journey of being a fan of something! To get someone who would be like, "You're copying me" or "I think you're fake"...it's a bit much to get so upset IMO.
