There is nothing wrong with this.

TBH I think it's really annoying and shitty when people from the mother country act like assholes about the existence of a diaspora. People from a diaspora still have an identity that's shaped by a relationship with the mother culture - obviously, it's not the same as actually being from the mother culture, but it's still real and people have a right to think and write about that.

As long as you're not holding yourself out as the true expert on identity and on every detail of the mother culture, it's absolutely fine. Even if you do get some details wrong. There's nothing about it.

Honestly, thanks for this - I feel like my ancestry I relate the most to HATES the diaspora and it feels so awkward it took me decades to even acknowledge it as “something that matters identity wise”
