His character isn't major but his episode in season 1 (episode 17 according to wikipedia) is a BANGER and he shows up a couple more times. I'd say give season 1 a shot and if it's not grabbing you, just skip to episode 17--that way either way you can get the gist of the story/structure, which I think you need to understand what's going on with the character (and if you do like the show overall, even better! Have fun!)
