Does anyone know what this is about?

...am I going to regret asking?

I don't know and I don't want to know

I’m guessing it’s about this:

https://www.sportskeeda.com/esports/news-genshin-impact-pokemon-va-elliot-gindi-admits-sexual-harassment-allegations-apologizes

But how “good queer” and “not good not queer” factors in, I have no clue.

Is not about that VA that claimed white straight women shouldn't call themselves fujoshi for the fetish thing? I don't remember if he even was in Genshin Impact, but that's the most "good queers" vs "bad queers" drama that I can remember recently.

Oh, that makes more sense! I didn’t notice that there was a whole list of VA controversies.

I think the one you linked is too recent to already be a secret this week but yeah, Genshin VAs have a fittingly high number of drama and assholes, just like the game's fandom.

I heard recently that a voice actor expressed a very teenage-puritan-esque opinion about queer representation. You know, how everything that isn't pure soft uwu is bad. And he perpetuated some outdated talking points about BL, such as it's all seme/uke with rape and heteronormative dynamics for straights, which queer fans (especially queer Asian fans) have lately been strongly telling non-fans to stop saying.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-08 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
And how the term fujoshi means "rotten" so it should be a red flag when it was used by women to mean "yes, we are rotten and we draw what we want, even if you expect us to stay at home and have babies". But non-Asians fans cannot use that term and blah blah blah. Is another wild roller coaster.

To be fair, the whole seme/uke thing does remind me of the top/bottom (or even dom/sub) thing that is actually a thing in the gay community. Source: a queer person that actually identifies as one of those.

DA
Yeah, like, sure, not every gay couple has a strict top/bottom dynamic but plenty of gay people do in fact have a strong preference for one or the other. The thing is that there was this trend in m/m fanfic where several (usually non-gay afab people) decided that since seme/uke tropes were BADWRONG, clearly the only proper non-fetishising way to write gay sex was with the dudes all being switches.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-09 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
True, and a lot of BL writers are gay men who write it because they know that. But the puriteens and their "cool" adult friends refuse to believe anyone but a straight woman would write it.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-09 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, all of the gay guys I know IRL have a distinct preference for one or the other. I'm really not sure where the idea that being switch/vers is at all a common thing came from, honestly.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-09 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Basically virtue signalling by non-gay folks in m/m heavy fandoms.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-09 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, that guy was a Genshin Impact voice actor?!

(Anonymous) 2023-02-09 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Only for several smaller NPC roles I think. He did get support from another Genshin VA (the one for Candace iirc).

(Anonymous) 2023-02-09 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I thought it was just a random Twitter weirdo! WTF

(Anonymous) 2023-02-09 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, he's a voice actor who's also a published YA novelist now.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-09 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
From Paimon's voice actress over the whole fujoshi shittakes to now the actual creep, English Genshin VAs are just the gift that keeps on giving.
I'm so happy I never played with the English dub. (VA drama aside, it's just partly pretty bad as well.)

Genshin Impact is the new(ish) My Little Pony and Steven Universe as far as online drama goes. An absolute buzzkill in the fandom vibes department.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-09 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Truly a shame this fandom is such a trainwreck :') From my experience it's full of puritanical drama-mongering teenagers (and people who seem to take the things VAs say as law?) who are not afraid to curse you out (and worse) for writing about any non-popular ship. Especially THAT ship. You know the one. And God forbid you write anything taboo/dark/brutally realistic. For all the discourse, it is literally impossible to have a constructive discussion or debate with anybody in the fandom, lest you get slapped onto somebody's DNI list...

Sorry, needed to get this out xD I have nobody else to complain to!!
