This is really dumb... How do you even know if authors are autistic or not? And honestly why not just do this with all books bc there's always a chance they'll be bad or you won't like them for some reason... (Although honestly don't pirate books, libraries exist and are free)

Not the OP, but my guess is that the author being neurodivergent might well be one of the marketing points.

Hashtag ownvoices.

It was supposed to be something people optionally used to promote their work. A way to raise up marginalized voices. And as usual, it's been twisted by the publishing industry into a gatekeeping device and a way to push those 'high concept' stories.

And by the community, it's turned into a way to beat on authors for 'doing stuff wrong' if they keep their information about stuff private. "You can't write this without being this!" without any self awareness of how people's experiences may differ even in those groups.

It's a mess.
