Also the fact that twelve-year-olds eventually grow up. (Well, obviously some folks never do but I assume this case OP did.)

AYRT and tbh the secret was so visually noisy that I skimmed it and forgot the part where they said they were twelve or thirteen. I caught the part where they said they had matured and realized their past insensitivity, but not the part about just HOW young they were at the time.

Honestly, OP, you're fine IMO. I was a little asshole at that age. I'm glad I can't remember all of the horrible, insensitive, and undoubtedly problematic shit I thought back then. Hell, I probably actually said some of it. *facepalm*
