Was it this or some other hospital show where an asshole character lost his arm and later in the season a helicopter fell on him?

..I don't remember anything else from it. The opening credit music was maybe cool?

(Anonymous) 2023-02-11 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes - specifically, he lost his arm when a helicopter fell on him, and then died when another helicopter fell on him.

Helicopters just really hated that guy.

NAYRT, and I’ve never seen the show, but ROFL at this comment.

I think you mean ROFLcopter at this comment.

He lost his arm when he walked around back of a helicopter and into the rotor, which is like lesson one in being around helicopters: Never walk around the rear of the machine, the rotor is always spinning. Even if the helicopter is off, and it has a NOTAR system, the rotor is always spinning. Then a different helicopter fell on him while he was hiding in the court yard of the hospital having a panic attack about losing his arm to a helicopter.

Ah, thank you for the correction! My memory is foggy, I guess.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-11 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Never having seen the show, this summary might just be the best thing I've read all week.

To be fair, from what I remember of him, the helicopter did nothing wrong. Everyone hated him. xD

Ugh, Romano's death was so mean-spirited! I didn't even like him, but the way his death was portrayed as wacky and ironic really put me off the show for good. Knowing the actor felt hurt by how his character was killed off made it even worse.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-11 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I was a huge fan of ER, but those last few seasons were just... well, let's say Romano's death fit right in with the rest of it.

The actor didn't like how he was killed off? I didn't know that fact all this time.

My era of ER was late late 90s to the end/2004/2005 and omg it was great. So good. I didn't like when it was comedic/Clooney. Didn't care for him in it.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-11 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
or it might not

(Anonymous) 2023-02-11 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Why are you like this?

(Anonymous) 2023-02-12 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
i never watched an episode (i'm british, it was never big here) and the only thing i ever knew about it was maybe a couple of actors and apparently parminder nagra had trouble convincing the us visa officials that it was still on

what do you want from me

While it's true that AYRT's comment didn't add much to this thread, it expressed their opinion (which is a valid form of engagement) and it was civil. They also responded to your equally flippant reply with a civil answer that actually did contribute to the conversation, but you still came back with a perfunctory reply that added nothing and served only to shut down conversation. At this point I feel like maybe you should be asking, "Why am I 'like this'?"

I don't agree.

Especially taking the show as a whole - too much cast turnover and too many ridiculous, over-the-top, or extraneous storylines. While there are specific seasons that are very well-done, I could say that about The West Wing, X-Files, Twin Peaks, Person of Interest, Fringe, Hannibal, The Twilight Zone (Original), NewsRadio, The Carol Burnett Show, My So-Called Life, MASH, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and Homicide: Life on the Street (this isn't an inclusive list by any means).

OK you're not wrong but Newsradio has some pretty extreme extenuating circumstances for its worst season

ayrt

Sorry, I think I worded that badly, what I meant to say was more like this:

Especially taking the show as a whole - too much cast turnover and too many ridiculous, over-the-top, or extraneous storylines. While there are specific seasons [of ER] that are very well-done, I could say that about The West Wing, X-Files, Twin Peaks, Person of Interest, Fringe, Hannibal, The Twilight Zone (Original), NewsRadio, The Carol Burnett Show, My So-Called Life, MASH, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and Homicide: Life on the Street [also having very well-done seasons] (this isn't an inclusive list by any means).

I was meaning to point out that other shows would be up there, so ER wouldn't be the pinnacle, but, yeah, thinking about it, most of the other shows I listed did have some turnover or absurd/unnecessary storyline issues over the life of the shows.

The middle of it was pretty good.

I loved ER! Most of ER. The first few seasons were really, really good (bar the Clooney character, who was annoying as fuck), and of course Noah Wyle/Carter was awesome.

Then it was suddenly 'The Abbey Show' and now I'm having to fast forward through so much show to miss her whiney, annoying, ridiculous self. Then it got good again with Morris (he grew up!), and Neela (though she had some annoying moments, too).

Best ep? Whenever Carter was there. :D

Okay, suddenly I'm having the urge for an ER rewatch.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-12 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know if I would quite go that far, but when it was good, it was excellent. I don't know if any show would ever be able to quite capture the same magic and tone again. I did stop watching when Carter left, because he was the heart of it for me. I did a rewatch when it came on streaming and it was amazing how so many of my opinions about characters and relationships changed with time and age, though.
