Was it this or some other hospital show where an asshole character lost his arm and later in the season a helicopter fell on him?

..I don't remember anything else from it. The opening credit music was maybe cool?

(Anonymous) 2023-02-11 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes - specifically, he lost his arm when a helicopter fell on him, and then died when another helicopter fell on him.

Helicopters just really hated that guy.

NAYRT, and I’ve never seen the show, but ROFL at this comment.

I think you mean ROFLcopter at this comment.

He lost his arm when he walked around back of a helicopter and into the rotor, which is like lesson one in being around helicopters: Never walk around the rear of the machine, the rotor is always spinning. Even if the helicopter is off, and it has a NOTAR system, the rotor is always spinning. Then a different helicopter fell on him while he was hiding in the court yard of the hospital having a panic attack about losing his arm to a helicopter.

Ah, thank you for the correction! My memory is foggy, I guess.

Never having seen the show, this summary might just be the best thing I've read all week.

He was such an awful character and dickwad, the accidents made me feel conflicted.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-12 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
He brought conflict into the show, he was an ornery character! I liked him!

I loved him, TBH. He was a dickwad, yes. But a fun dickwad.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-11 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
To be fair, from what I remember of him, the helicopter did nothing wrong. Everyone hated him. xD

AM I THE ONLY ONE HERE STICKING UP FOR ROCKET ROMANO?!?!?

(Anonymous) 2023-02-12 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Nooooo!
Rocket was a dick, but he was also a good person sometimes. Like when he comforted Elizabeth when she found out Mark's cancer had come back, and when he fought to keep Lucy alive, and a number of times he was good to patients....

Plus, he loved his doggo. :D

Yup. He was a total dick, but he had some good moments. And honestly he was a dick in a way that was really fun to watch.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-12 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
He was one of my all time faves. A character/person does not have to be likeable to be good.

Ugh, Romano's death was so mean-spirited! I didn't even like him, but the way his death was portrayed as wacky and ironic really put me off the show for good. Knowing the actor felt hurt by how his character was killed off made it even worse.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-11 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I was a huge fan of ER, but those last few seasons were just... well, let's say Romano's death fit right in with the rest of it.

[personal profile] killnotic 2023-02-12 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
That's disappointing. ER was top tier, must-see television for a long time. Damn shame.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-12 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, the show ran for 15 years or something crazy like that. I'd say they got a solid 10 years before things started to go off the rails.

Yeah. Agreed. It was excellent-to-good for close to a decade.

Even though I dipped during the latter years, I still came back to watch the series finale, and I'm pretty sure I cried.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-12 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
I think I stopped watching regularly right after the helicopter came back for the rest of Romano, but I also watched the finale with a tear in my eye. But I remember things being not great for a couple of seasons before I stopped watching. I never thought Mark and Elizabeth were that good as a couple, and the writers were starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel with things like Breakfast Club episodes. When the TWOP recaps started being more entertaining than the actual show, it was kind of the beginning of the end.

The actor didn't like how he was killed off? I didn't know that fact all this time.

The actor was in a retrospective I watched on Youtube, so I don't know the exact name of it, but Paul McCrane who played Romano looked and sounded really upset talking about the scene. I think I remember him saying he begged the showrunners to write Romano off some other way but they went with the wacky helicopter death anyway.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-12 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
Wonder why the helicopter death irked him so much.

I'm not sure, but from what I understood, McCrane thought Romano got a lot of positive character development after losing his arm, and that Romano deserved something better than a: 'Fell down an elevator shaft' ending.
