I really hate when people try to claim that you shouldn't tag for that to "normalize" trans bodies in smut when it's like... you do realize that it can be really dysphoric for a lot of trans people to be hit with that when they're not expecting it, right?

I'm trans, and once I had a miserable experience reading a m/m fic where one of the characters was trans. To be clear, it was properly tagged for. But it ended in the two guys having PIV sex, and the trans guy who has been dysphoric throughout the fic decides "oh, I guess this is why I'm this way, because our bodies fit together so perfectly and sex could never be this right if I had a dick." (Because apparently only PIV sex is true and good.)

FLAMES. ON THE SIDE OF MY FACE.

It was so upsetting and sent me into a horrible dysphoria spiral. And as you can see, I'm still mad about it years later.

To be fair, I don't see how that could have been tagged for. But it seriously put me off reading fic with trans characters, and I'm only now starting to feel able to try it again.

(If I remember right, the author was cis. I've read trans fic by trans authors where I haven't liked the story or where their take on being trans is very much not mine. But I don't think I've seen that level of WTFery from a trans author.)
