On the one hand, I really like and enjoy a lot of older tie-in novels and have a ton of nostalgia for them and will absolutely go back and read them.
On the other hand, it has to be acknowledged that the quality of a lot of those books was not high. That's not judgmental or pissy IMO, it's just a reality. Also IIRC the secret talked about tie-in novels representing a golden age of SFF or something like that which I think is a little strong.
