I started watching cdramas regularly a few years ago and occasionally some Youtubers I follow mention fan reactions from Chinese netizens and it's like... whaaaaaaat. It's crazy how much control fans think they ought to have over actors. Shaming them for gaining weight? Having a boyfriend/girlfriend? Something innocuous they posted on Weibo that they didn't like and now they expect the actor to apologize? Throwing tantrums over who should have top billing in a cdrama? And then there's the crazy shit of stalking them by attaching GPS locators to their cars and showing up at their house or something.

It's not even purity police stuff, it's... they expect a star to be perfect at all times. To look perfect, dress perfectly, always be available for public interaction, never say a word out of place, never support the "wrong" thing or behave even remotely irresponsibly, never date anyone, etc. etc. Batshit crazy.
