People can obviously unfollow whenever they want at even the slightest provocation.

But I really don't think the fanartist here has done anything even remotely objectionable or wrong here. It is in fact entirely unreasonable to object to them posting an explicit m/f artwork while being an account that also posts explicit m/m art. I can't even imagine being so committed to my OTP that I would be in any way upset about someone posting art with them fucking someone else.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-14 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
One of my gay OTPs involves a canon bi character, so I wouldn't even blink if someone who posted explicit m/m art of this character also posted explicit m/f art with the same character. Dude's bi, he can have dick or pussy if he wants.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-14 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think people who unfollowed are just very weak, tbh. I follow fan artists whose posts are 20% my otp and the rest stuff I don't care about and I'm just fine.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-14 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I follow an artist who posts art for my OTP as well as another ship from the same canon that I'm not really into, and I just scroll past the second one when she posts it because I like her art for my OTP.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-14 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, if it's not tagged, I might unfollow, depending on the other ship... some things are easy to scroll past, and there are plenty of characters who could be gay or bi, but if I had a notp blocked and followed someone who put out explicit untagged art so that I could not filter it out... yeah.

I wouldn't make it Their Problem or tell them not to create and share whatever they want-- I would just engage with their art for my otp by following the ship tag, where I wouldn't see art for a notp. I think that's a perfectly reasonable reaction. You're allowed to unfollow people at any time, for any reason-- that includes times that the other person didn't do anything wrong.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-14 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Eh. If an artist is most well known for one type of product and then posts a different type and doesn't tag their posts so people can filter accordingly, then I'd understand why people might object. A one-off post is one thing, but if you want to see only art featuring apples, it's going to be annoying to have your dash full of artwork featuring oranges with no way of filtering stuff out.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-14 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
But according to the secret, this is the first time this happened. In which case, politely asking for a tag would be a more reasonable reaction than unfollowing.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-14 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, if the art is untagged then ask for tags. Jumping right to unfollow seems like a complete overreaction.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-14 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
To you, sure. But some people might not want to bother asking, and if that's what they'd prefer then who's to say otherwise?

I agree, because I have done and have seen done. People start posting fanart from new fandoms, their old fandom followers eventually unfollow because they're just not interested. There's no drama, unless the poster notices people unfollowing and makes drama about it.

I honestly thought that was how art-blogging or tweeting worked. Am I wrong? do you NOT expect people to stop following - or start - when you change your art?

It's the Rage Quit that baffles me. Over one image? That's not 'drifting into another Thing so the people who followed you for the Thing drift away', that's anger that OP is showing.

Over one image.

Not more explicit than others they're drawn, not something immoral, just... I can't tell if the rage is coming from being confronted with a rival ship or if OP has a kneejerk, 'Women, ew,' thing going on.

But their reaction is excessive.

nayrt - Who says it has to be a ragequit, though? I follow blogs of various themes (not just art) and sometimes I'm just not feeling it anymore. It's usually not one specific post that makes me feel this way, but sometimes a post reminds me that oh yeah, I've been following this person but I'm not into whatever they're posting right now and don't want to be bothered anymore... unfollow.

Like, don't automatically read rage when sometimes it's just boredom, indifference or a case of "It's not you, it's me".

I normally wouldn't read rage into it? Hell, people unfollow me and I don't think anything of it.

It's the general tone of OP's secret that makes me think they're throwing a tanty.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-14 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
OP
People asked for a tag and the artist reacted petulantly to that too. Didn't add it to the secret but should have.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-14 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Incorrect tagging or lack of tagging is definitely annoying, sure. But all of the stuff the secret talks about doesn't really have anything to do with that - it's not like incorrect tagging is *worse* when you've previously drawn slash art and now want to post an m/f art. That doesn't really make things any worse at all. It's still just incorrect tagging.
