Honestly, back when the series was being written in real time, the thin world-building was kind of a plus because it meant fans could take the bare bones and run with it. The last couple of books and everything that came after were kind of disappointing even before all the JKR-specific drama because it turned out that the actual canon was a serious downgrade. In pretty much every case, Jo would have been better off just leaving the mysteries unsolved.

tbh the thin world-building is still a plus when it comes to creating fanworks.

Yeah, but now you've got Word of God lurking over your shoulder like a big, unvanished turd.

I grew up in the wilds of 90s anime fandoms. Word of God means nothing to me.

A turd a wizard just plopped on the floor then magiced away.

The way you say that made me miss when JK Rowling just would say random headcanons and people just react with an "oh, you".

(Anonymous) 2023-02-18 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
When was that? People have been pissed off at Rowling's headcanons since "Well, actually, Dumbledore was gay for Grindelwald the whole time."

NAYRT

Well, some people. That's probably my all-time favorite of her post-Potter comments.

He was so gay it made him do a war crime.
