Why the assumption that people who don't like deleting fics aren't writers themselves?

I've been writing fic for 22 years and I have never deleted anything. Of course there's stuff out there that's not to my current writing level standards or fandoms I don't really want to be associated with anymore, but who gives a fuck?

Deleting gift fic is a dick move always, unless the person you gifted it to turns out to be a rapist or Nazi or something. Harmless drifting away of a friendship is no fucking excuse.

Is there something I'm not seeing in the secret where OP says that they only do this with gift fic?

How does gift fic keep coming up over and over ITT?

I'm responding to this: I usually have personal reasons for deleting works and yes I did the asshole-move of deleting gifts as well.

What's the point of having your username connected to someone you're not close to anymore (I never wrote for exchanges and only gifted writings to friends).

They never said they ONLY did it with gift fic, they just said they also did it with gift fic.
