I don't even know the name of it... I just remember it must have come out around the same time that I was putting together the playlist and a couple lines hit me as appropriate but most of it didn't actually work.

Quick Google consultation reveals it was indeed Matchbox 20 as I suspected. *facepalm* They always kind of struck me as trying to be Counting Crows Lite, but darned if "I bet you need more than you mind" didn't sum up one side of the dynamic of my OTP...

I LOVE Matchbox 20 and have since they first came out with their first album. I never really got much into Counting Crows tho, weirdly enough? But I LOVE Matchbox 20. Rob Thomas' voice could fuel my teen angst for decades. 'If You're Gone' is such a good song. 'Bent' and 'Push' also have the same kind of angsty fic-fuel for me.

Part of it in my case might just be that I was into Counting Crows' first couple albums REALLY HARD before I ever heard Matchbox 20, and I immediately noticed some similarities in lyrical style when I did - a sort of "rambling pensive angst told through narrative" thing - but Adam Duritz's particular brand of rambling pensive angst just hits closer to home for me. XD (I swear the second verse of "Daylight Fading" is just... spot-on what happens in my head when people try to tell me they'd miss me.)

"If You're Gone" definitely has some great lines, and is my favorite that I've heard by Matchbox 20! Just one of those instances where the couple of lines that stood out and made me go "!!" when first I heard it were pretty much the only lines that were in fact relevant to the OTP when I listened to the rest of the song (the above, and "I think you're so mean, I think we should try/I think I could need this in my life"), so it did not go on the playlist. But hearing those lines still make me go "Hi John! Want to give me some actual PLOT instead of pining silently about the adversarial state of your relationship?" every time I hear it. :D
