...It's a bit odd that you're saying there's no power imbalance in this one because he outranks her.

I mean, I think I get what you're getting at - it works because canon *acknowledged* the power imbalance, and treated it as a real obstacle, and they both *respected* the fact that it meant they couldn't get together, so they didn't. That's super rare and absolutely makes the relationship better! But it's all about the power imbalance.
