read up through "Is it just me or have the tag wranglers on AO3 completely given up" and I was already in complete agreement. yep, they sure have

AO3 even still has tag wranglers? Their tags are a complete shitshow.

My understanding is that the problem isn't really the tag wranglers, it's the committees that are in charge of the tag wranglers

Freeform tags that aren't attached to a fandom haven't been wrangled for years. (My understanding is that - long story short - there was a point at which canonization would break the site because server strain because AO3 code, but once that was fixed, the tag committee decided they needed a set of rules for canonizing new tags and then proceeded to never ever come to an agreement on those rules.) Stuff being overly lumped together for the people who use them is a separate issue that unfortunately affects a decent number of tags.

Which is a fucking insane outcome!

That's about right.

Tags for specific fandoms will get canonized, but generic/No Fandom tags are basically untouched these days. We stopped wrangling them "for a few weeks, to ease the strain on the servers"...and that was, I think, 5 years ago by now?

Give me control of the transformation and age regression tags. I'll fix things.
