Stephanie Meyer is just as horrible a person as JK Rowling, she is super racist, but she is at least smart enough not to blurt out her horribleness on Twitter.

Can't argue with that. Also I think we should just wait till her shitty books die in history.

Stephanie Meyer is that particular variety of awful that keeps trying to force archaic gender roles on women. Growing up in the hyperconservative southern US, I knew more girls than I care to admit who weren't allowed to play Poke'mon (because "it has evolution"), weren't allowed to read Harry Potter (because "the occult is evil"), etc. whose parents had no issue with them being exposed to Twilight because that was proper Christian Lit being written by a nice, god-fearing Mormon lady. It made my skin crawl then and makes my skin crawl, still. If your "vampires" are "waiting until marriage" they. Are. Not. Vampires.

But sure, if she's also a piece of work to Native Americans, Blacks, Hispanics, or so forth, I can't say I'm even a little bit surprised.

Well, she's very, very Mormon. And the Mormon Church's history when it comes to Black and Native American people is fraught, to put it discreetly.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks, anon.

I'm not sure which particular issues OP's thinking of, but the problems with how Meyer used the Quileute tribe in her books are pretty well documented at this point.

See, if I wanted to go read things to be indignant about them, I would, but when an author grooves hard on "traditional" womanhood, I'm not sticking around for what else they fail at. That's why I didn't find out about the rest. I'm glad people have taken the time to articulate what else is wrong with her writing, though, because she was widely read. And for what it's worth, her books seem a lot more morally repugnant to me than Harry Potter.
