Nayrt, I don't know what specific events this person is talking about (except the blackface thing, I'm guessing thats the dutch with the "zwartpiet" tradition, which is absolutely blackface although the origin is different.) But, there certainly is a proud tradition among some Europeans (individuals) to point fingers at undesirable things that happen in the US while ignoring similar undesirable things that happen in their own countries

Eh, most versions of the zwarte Piet thing are absolutely racist but there are other versions of him or of other a blackened assistant to St Niklas or Santa who are black because of the soot from the chimney they come through so it's absolutely a matter of context.

The thing about him being black from the soot is a retcon that was invented to explain why he's black after it was wider known that blackface is bad. Nothing against that, necessarily, changing racist lore to make it not racist is a good thing IMO, but it needs to be done so thoroughly that nobody knows anymore that it was once racist. If there are still people side-eyeing the "soot" explanation, there's still work to do. Make it more obvious that that's what it is supposed to be instead of just assuming people know.
