It's fine to be the person in the crowd who likes all the "wrong" music - it may seem like a bad thing, but if genuine, it's fine. People will soon realize that's just your taste and, unless they're assholes not worth talking to, come to accept it IMO.

Metal has never been a genre I like even though as a teen most of my friends did (oh, early 00s MMO crowd... ) and would share their best recs yet it never clicked. One of them (the sweetest soft-spoken long-haired dude you'd ever meet) spent entire days listening to new album releases and we were surprised at each other's tastes. Often I would go "ew, don't like this part" and they would explain what it was called. Eventually I came across metal songs I liked but we all had to agree I just wasn't into metal generally lol. Then I started talking to the J-rock crowd which is also full of metal fans, again never clicked. But being able to explain what you like and what you don't and let yourself known goes a long way - so, you like lyrics. That's who you are and people who can't accept that probably aren't worth talking to IMO.
