(Anonymous) 2023-03-02 01:11 am (UTC)(link)Not the every three months 'Zon algorithms demand. B/C that's crazy and if you do that, you better have several years worth of books in advance done.
But stealing an author's book b/c they don't publish on your preferred schedule is bonkers. If you're going to go and READ the book, at least give them their under a buck they get from the sale. If you're reading it, obviously there is still a demand for the book. If you think it's bad behavior, don't buy it and don't read it. Publishers really do pay attention to those spreadsheets. AND they pay attention to ebook piracy numbers. So, pirating it won't tell them to not publish more from the author.

(Anonymous) 2023-03-02 02:09 am (UTC)(link)I was enjoying seeing the new trend of Kickstarters until it changed from “back my new book” to “fund a new print run at higher cost to you and inflated profit for the publisher and only slightly higher profit to the author.” I really just don’t understand that at all.

(Anonymous) 2023-03-02 02:19 am (UTC)(link)The kickstarter thing turned into a 'hybrid' publishing thing where some authors were trying to prove to publishers they didn't really need them to sell books, I guess. And the problem is, you have to be really established big name like Sanderson for such a thing to work on a profitable scale. And if they're "special edition" print runs, just, excuse me while I froth.
I have feelings about this I guess and I can't really air them in public... if I ever want a publishing contract.
