Yeah, I'm not generally a fan of this kind of casting either. Like, I fully acknowledge that most of the time the person who gets cast does an at least decent job. But I find the knowledge that they got cast via a real-life relationship with one of the other people heavily involved in the project to be distracting. Also, I just feel like if you don't audition for a role, you're a lot less likely to land on an actor who brings that magical "it" quality to the role. This only applies to substantial roles, though. I don't care nearly as much about whether the day players are nailing every second of their three minutes of total screen time.
