Yeah, it can be annoying but it's just as annoying when producers have their favourites that they shoehorn into everything without a romantic relationship being involved. Whether or not the favourite is a good actor, their casting is often at the expense of a more interesting dynamic (e.g. Summer Glau in Firefly) or they may just not be suited for that role even though they're good elsewhere (Eliza Dushku in Dollhouse).

I think it's annoying but different because usually there's something about the acting style the producer likes, even if I don't like it. So like I disagree that Summer Glau or Eliza Dushku weren't doing exactly what Whedon wanted them to do or if he hired someone else he wouldn't want them to do the same thing. It's just that his pastiche is annoying.

Hiring partners on the other hand, I might not even get that.
