I have no opinion about hidden object games, but yeah, "Hero dies saving repentant villain who must then figure out how to live with that" is way more interesting to me than the standard "villain redeemed through death" plot.

Oh, this does sound a lot more interesting! Also been getting into hidden objects, Lost Lands, and yeah, they can get repetitive. Does the The Room count? I think it's more puzzle but gives me similar feelings to hidden object games.

The Mystery Case Files games are good - the first two are pretty basic and can be skipped but then it gets really entertaining and batshit. Later they get a bit same-y but when you get to that point just stop.

I loved all of Blue Tea/Eipix Dark Parables games, but they were basically the same puzzles over and over again. I just really liked the art style and I'll still go back and replay them as comfort games.
