There's nothing uptight or boring about the dynamic you prefer. I say this as someone who has a wide variety of OTPs, whether they be hero/hero, hero/villain, or villain/villain-- or people who fall somewhere between the extremes.

Honestly, part of what turned me off of enemies-to-lovers shipping when it used to be my biggest thing is that I find THOSE to be boring a lot of the time. The dynamic got to be popular, but it doesn't mean the majority of writers put thought into what makes a hero/villain or morally-grey-rivals ship interesting. Even if a villainous character is more interesting, it doesn't mean most fanworks will capture that, and a lot of what I was seeing boiled down to using enmity as instant tension, and then doing nothing to develop the characters or make me care about their interactions and story.

Meanwhile, you can take two characters who are on the same side and who do trust and like each other, and throw things at them to test who they are as individuals and as a couple. Yeah, not every writer will actually do something interesting with that dynamic either, but it's just as ripe for exploring what makes a ship tick, and sometimes a fan work will take a character who's a little more boring in canon and crack them open and make them a new fave.

Neither is inherently better than the other-- I still love the enemy ships I have! I just stopped looking for new stuff when it started to feel samey to me, and figured I'd wait for fandom trends to shift again and see what grabs me in the future. Just that I think it's wrong to say a ship between two heroes/teammates is always more boring or goody two shoes. If there are talented writers for a ship, then there will be interesting stories about any ship, and it's okay if there are no conflicts between A and B but rather a conflict between A-and-B and the world!

Yeah. Like I said in another comment, even though I mainly tend to go for hero/hero, I've also shipped villain/villain. I dislike the imbalance between hero/villain, but that's totally personal preference, and I have no problem with other people liking that dynamic.

And I agree that theoretically any dynamic could be interesting, it's all about how it's handled.

a conflict between A-and-B and the world

This is how things are in canon, and it's a big part of what drew me to the pairing to begin with. Especially recently, it's been A and B against a common enemy, and just seeing the teamwork and the trust and the little things that show they're on the same page, caring about each other's mental and physical well-being, trying to protect each other, putting themselves in physical danger for each other...it just checks a lot of my boxes, and they'd make so much sense together. A especially hasn't had the greatest luck with relationships and there's this almost wistful sort of vibe coming from them sometimes where I get the feeling they have (most likely unrequited) feelings for B...but then sometimes it seems like B has feelings for A as well. But honestly, I'm probably reading into things and they're just meant to be good friends.

Anyway, sorry for the tangent. There's no fic for the pairing and I hate it because I would love to see their dynamic explored in fic.
