"English speakers never seem to realize they're playing on easy mode and I find that frustrating,"

Yes, that's what I meant. I'm very tired of seeing native English speakers act as though they're having some huge burden imposed upon them to have to read subtitles if they want to enjoy some non-American media, when for many other people who aren't from the US that's just a daily fact of life if you want to watch anything that wasn't made in your country.

To the extent that someone actually IS "acting as though they're having some huge burden imposed upon them," I think it's totally reasonable to find that really annoying and also pretty entitled--albeit in a fairly inconsequential way.

However there's a whole lot of English speakers out there who know subtitles don't make the film any less legitimate and aren't a big deal, but who would still rather watch something that doesn't necessitate reading subtitles. And it doesn't make them vapid or or oblivious or entitled or even lazy. It just makes them lucky in this one very specific capacity.
