To all the people saying cry moar, get over it, etc. Maybe they should, but it really does suck to tell someone your favorite ships and have them go "OMG RPF! EW!" every single time.


I love RPF, much more than "normal" fic. There's only two ships that I care enough about to read/write fanfic, and they're real people.

I think I'm a weird shipper anyway. I have to care extremely deeply about the two people in a ship before I'll even consider shipping them. I don't get that emotionally invested in fictional people. I can't do it, because it's always in the back of my mind that they don't actually exist. It bothers me a little. But I'm guessing "normal" shippers work in reverse, it bugs them that the people actually exist.

I've never understood why RPF seems to squick people SO MUCH. I can get not liking it, that's cool. Different strokes and all that. But some people hate it like it's their job. I don't really get it.

I just wanted to say I'm the exact opposite, which I find interesting. I can't get emotionally invested in real* people, but find fictional people fascinating. Probably because anytime I start reading about a RL person I like always find something that weirds me out, so I avoid it. ("I write interesting fantasy books, but I believe gayness is only caused by anal penetration!" for example )But if a fictional character 'believes' something weird, I know it's not real and I can be amused by it? That said, RPF doesn't squick me, just doesn't have a draw for me.


*By real, I mean actor/celeb/authors/anyone I don't know personally. I have no problem caring about people that I know.
