So does Lisa apparently.

Came here to say this.

No idea how that scene/flash-forward/whatever plays out, but that is definitely not the face of someone who's happy about it in the moment.

That was my first thought when I saw that image.

This show is ruthless.

Same. I think she deserves significantly better than someone who'll constantly drag her down. Admittedly, I'm kind of on Team Lisa/Nelson, but I'm more so on Team Lisa-Is-Single-and-Leaves-Springfield-for-better-things.

This.

As someone who had a Millhouse type guy around me at school (as in, he was into me but wouldn't give up no matter how blunt I got about it, which obviously as a teenage girl you're often not confident enough to be TOO blunt) I feel your second option. I think Lisa ending up with Millhouse depresses me because it hits too close to wondering what might've happen if I hadn't got out of that town.

I hate the idea that women always have to be worn down and accept someone eventually because of views along the lines of "aww but he's nice" or worse when you get told "well, you won't do any better" and that's what it feels like to me. I haven't watched The Simpsons in years but I always felt Lisa would either be happy single as an adult or the person she would end up with romantically wasn't in Springfield.

OP who made that Lisa Get Out of Springfield comment, but big same. I'm just not into these milquetoast loser boyfriend types whose only purpose is to be accepted and loved by women who deserve better, especially when they won't improve themselves.

I don't remember much of that episode anon used for today's secret, but I think I recall Milhouse was still acting like that, and yeesh. Yeesh.

I didn't like the episode with Lisa as a President (just because it was, an overall meh episode), but that's still the future I hope Lisa ends up in.

This.

Exactly, Lisa has so many interests and things that she's passionate about, I think she'd stay happily single rather than be with someone she wasn't compatible with.

And Milhouse deserves someone who really likes him for himself as well, not someone he was able to wear down.

yeah, I agree.

Oh Christ, yes. It's so gross. No one's entitled to a relationship with me, and I have no obligation to meet the needs of someone I'm not interested in.

I'm totally with you on the Lisa-leaves-Springfield bit. My headcanon is that she leaves Springfield, goes to the lake she went to in "Summer of 4ft2," and reacquaints herself with Erin. They eventually fall in love and enjoy a happy married life together. Whether they will have kids, I haven't decided, but this is the future I came up with because I just adore the "Summer of 4ft2" episode.

(Anonymous) 2023-03-17 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, obviously.

(Anonymous) 2023-03-17 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I kind of wish she’d stayed together with the two girls we saw in this flash forward clip. If the creators hadn’t been cowards we could’ve had polyamory bisexual Lisa for real.

(Anonymous) 2023-03-17 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, everything is coming up Millhouse!

(Anonymous) 2023-03-17 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
“You don’t want me to be with you. You don’t want me to be with someone else. How miserable do I have to be before you’re happy?”

(Anonymous) 2023-03-18 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
The older I get the more I want to burn down every "end up with someone you went to school with/grew up with". It reinforces this idea that a big stepping stone in life is marriage, even if it means settling in one way or another.

And I get these stories don't have to be aspirational but given how Lisa's life is such a common one for many girls, I can't help but pout and say Lisa deserves better. Leave Springfield and find romance elsewhere but the romance isn't vital to her successes. Or we can leave out romance all together lol

Thank you for making my secret. I love the picture!

(Anonymous) 2023-03-18 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
I think there have been a few episodes where Lisa ends up with Milhouse or talks about dating Milhouse in the past and it's always a sore point for her, so she seems to feel the same way. I like the idea of Lisa/Nelson, but it probably wouldn't work out.

(Anonymous) 2023-03-18 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
I watched a recent episode on D+ called When Lisa Met Nelson and it was a flash-forward episode and ... Lisa was very "Tee Hee remember when we had a crush on each other? What if we kissed right now!" and it felt ...off. And this coming from a Lisa/Nelson shipper.

(Anonymous) 2023-03-18 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
I like the idea of Lisa/Nelson because they are so different they can both gain from learning the other's point of view. To me, those are the relationships that are still good to have had, even if they don't last.

I can't be the only one here who preferred Bart to Lisa as a kid

(Anonymous) 2023-03-23 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
What's going on with Bart's eyes in this image?
