My personal view (by all means not scholarly, you're not getting academic me right now - I'm just essentially shit-posting late on the Internet) is that the Greek gods were never meant to be revered as perfect and beyond reproach but definitely considered on a level above humans. But they're all petty and manipulative for their own ends and humans are just another pawn in that particular game. Yes, you should fear them because they can make your life miserable and worshipping them in the right way might get them off your back. But it's very much a thing in e.g. The Illiad that those fuckers interfere the shit out of everything, and even fuck up sometimes in doing so.

Idk, I'm not feeling very coherent. But Greek gods are not as "hands off" as the deities in some other belief systems may appear to be. They get involved, good or bad. Human standards don't necessarily come into it, they're just messy in their own way.
