I mean, the fact that fandom is predominantly non-cishet men, and it caters heavily, unapologetically, and unconservatively to the desires of people who are non-cishet men is more than enough to make fandom pretty definitively subversive in and of itself. The fact that it largely rejects the pursuit of financial gain as a core driving force behind content production is also enough to make fandom subversive in and of itself.

Like, you asked a valid question, and I'm not trying to be snarky, but honestly fandom is so thoroughly subversive from top to bottom that not recognizing it as such kind of feels like missing the forest for the trees.

No snark taken. Thanks for your answer. I figured that might have been what you meant. I suppose it was more of a me not recognizing it as subversive because I am there and don't consider myself a subversive actor -- not recognizing that you're part of the soup while you're in the pot. Basically what you're saying lol. I also tend to associate subversion with political action and art more than this space. But thank you for the clarification!
