Not the OP, but I can say that part of the issue for me with Harrison Ford remaining in the role is that Indy's character arc is mostly locked down and rather limited now because of his age? That's why we got stuck with Mutt. There's also always going to be a lot of nostalgia callbacks to earlier, well-loved movies, characters, etc. which is not always a bad thing but... it's a limitation. If OP wants to explore new territory, then it'd be a lot easier with a new, younger actor.

I just don't think Ford (or them making another Indy movie with Ford) is an obstacle to that really.
