Lionel Richie's an R&B and pop star. He started off with the Commodores.

He's not my fave, but I solidly agree that R&B sure ain't what it used to be.

According to Wikipedia, his genres are Soul and R&B. Also, according to Wikipedia, in the 80s/90s, hip-hop and electronic music, among others, started to be more of an influence on both.

R&B in his case, but you'll find similar in the Adult Contemporary genre. He's on the funky end of it, but you get artists like Adele, Dionne Warwick, Julio and Enrique Iglesias.

Love his stuff, too, anon. By the way, what I love the most is the story of how this song came to be- something about his manager coming into the room looking for him while he was playing the piano, and he jokingly played "hello, is it me you're looking for?" and the manager supposedly said "that's it, play it again" . Love that.

His Commodores era was even more interesting to me though gotta love those funky beats. Not sure what his solo era would be classified as but soft rock is a good guess. Piano-playing soft rock vocalists aren't that unusual though.

The threads above are the first I'm hearing of "soft rock," in a sea of descriptors that seem to be about figuring out new ways to make rock sub-genres seem more impressive or threatening or manly or spooky. It's making me wonder if it's a legitimate descriptor or a reclaimed epithet, like "shoegazing."

In any case, I'm hoping you find more of what you like, anon.

I enjoyed the fourth one, other than Mutt. He was irritating, but the rest of it was fun. I still do think Ford is too old to do another one, though.

IMO the fourth one wasn't great but its problems had very little to do with Ford being too old. He's really good in the parts of the movie that are good. The problems with the fourth one are mostly to do with the whole middle section in the jungle - the plot just completely grinds to a halt and gets stuck in quicksand, and the action scenes during that whole section are too stagey and just bad.

Second - I would love more Indie-style adventure movies. I love adventure movies, they're one of my favorite genres, they're fantastic. But it seems like they're very hard to make - you basically have to direct a stunt-heavy action movie and a light banter-y rom-com at the same time, while also probably doing a lot of VFX and location shooting. And it's a genre based on pulp material that effectively doesn't exist in the popular consciousness any more. Indy was riffing off original pulp material from the 30s, 40s, 50s. Adventure movies now are more or less just riffing off Indy. And I think that makes it a lot harder to come up with an original and compelling story.

And it seems like they also just aren't that popular. In terms of box office, when they do make the occasional adventure-y adventure movies, most of them don't seem to do *that* well. There are exceptions (Mummy 99, the National Treasure movies) but on the whole it just seems like people aren't crying out for them.

So in conclusion, I would love more adventure movies. But I don't think that Harrison Ford is really the problem here. And I hope the fifth one is good!

I won't claim that "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" is a great movie, but the "Peter you suck" song always makes me laugh. He performs it with such gusto!

Oh no, pop music heresy lol. Michael's credited with being the more talented performer over all, and he's a huge influence (2020s K-pop, anyone?) but I have to admit that I'd rather listen to Janet too, OP. I still play her all the time.
