I know the theory (somehow missing that it's a Pratchett though. I've never have got into him). But this secret was really absolutely not fandom.

Yeah. A secret about a well known character in a well known series written by a well known author with a huge following can't possibly be fandom. How ridiculous of anyone to think so...

At best it's a proxy. I am not against non fandom secrets, but this secret was about OP's fucking expensive shoes. So you are being just annoying for no reason

I can see how it passed for Fandom enough to get through, but it's iffy enough that it didn't seem remotely unreasonable that someone tossed out a "How is this fandom?"

Right but it seems like the issue was not that they didn't see how the Vimes theory of boots is fandom, but rather that they did not know that the Vimes theory of boots came from a fantasy novel

Which isn't a mortal sin or anything, but they're different questions, and the point wasn't that the Vimes theory of boots was too far removed from fandom

Yup, but the ACTUAL issue is that instead of getting no response or a reasonable response to their question, they got some rude jerk going off on them.

This. I am a huge PTerry fan, but that was fandom adjacent at best.
