I speak English as a first language more or else and I don't know discworld, Pratchett, etc. Not everyone is in the same fandom or has had the same materials make up their youth/upbringing.

Pratchett isn't quintessential childhood reading in any country that speaks English. I hadn't even heard of him until I was in fandom.
