The Village.

Honestly the ending on that was so disappointing. Like... "Oh just kidding we pretend to be monsters to keep everyone thinking it's the xx00s and not really modern times so they're ruled by feaaaaar."

That was the dumbest twist ever. The monsters being guys in masks was okay, but the reason for the masks was stupid. And also ripped straight out from an actual kids book, Running Out of Time by Margaret Haddix, I'm forever surprised that nobody got sued over that. Then again, if Jill Murphy didn't sue Rowling, then who knows what counts as naked plagiarism anymore.
