I've certainly seen fandom tattoos that I sort of side-eye, like people getting full back tattoos to imitate fictional members of the yakuza (I hope you don't intend to ever visit Japan, buddy) but when we're talking about adults and not 15-year olds, I think it's still ultimately their own business what they do with their bodies. Yeah, you might regret it later, but the same is true of any tattoo, though of course fandom tattoos are particularly vulnerable to shifting connotations.

I still remember the group with a tattoo of the kamon of the yakuza family in the game posing in the same place where the game is based from and oh boy, at least Japanese people are aware that Foreigners have a different view about tattoos because they would have been shunned quickly.
