All three of my tattoos are fandom. Only one of them gets recognized with any regularity, and that's just if I wear a shirt cut low enough that people can see it. I don't have the same all-consuming intense love of the fandoms that I did when I got the tattoos, but they also mean specific things to me. (Perseverance, potential, self-love, in the order that I got them, if you're curious.) Even if terrible things come out about the real people at the center of these properties, the emotions and the memories are still part of me. So are the people I met through these fandoms, and the friends I made. In that sense, I don't now and probably will not in the future regret the fandom tattoos.

My experience is not universal, and I do think decisions with lasting consequences should be carefully considered (this applies to many things, not just tattoos). I'm glad OP didn't get the tattoo they would have regretted, and I'm glad for everyone else who also didn't do something they would have regretted later, but that doesn't mean it's the wrong choice for everyone.
