Sorry to stir up some wank, but I've never understood this brouhaha over project ownership. How can a group 'own' a series that they're posting pirated scans of? Last I checked, they're not the IP holders and thus have zero entitlement over ownership of the series; they have no right to demand control over someone else's translation or distribution.

The fanbrats getting a big head and thinking they have the right to control whether or not other people also translate the same manga are the ones who should be apologizing, IMO. The group they support are pirates that own nothing, just like the group they're complaining about (a case can be made for control of the translated scripts themselves, but that goes out the window when you post edited scans rather than the script itself.)

I think people sometimes lose sight of the fact that posting scanlations and fansubs is piracy. I appreciate their work, and I wouldn't condemn them for it as long as it's unlicesned and they're not asking for money, but they really shouldn't forget that they aren't entitled to any control over what other groups do.
