i already said in the secret thread that this is really effective when used deliberately to suggest a character is less likeable, a la Gone Girl, but you just reminded me about how Stephanie Meyer AND EL James wrote a Edward/Christian focused book and it made even some of those characters stans say "wow this dude sucks"

turns out the haters were right and edward and christian were creepy fucks lmao. their thoughts weren't really romantic (I think edward spends the beginning of midnight son trying not to eat bella and don't quote me but christian does stalk anna and is gross about her), so I think it just turned some shippers off.
