I get what you mean, but this is a gimmick that definitely works on me. I love seeing the story from a different angle at different points.

i already said in the secret thread that this is really effective when used deliberately to suggest a character is less likeable, a la Gone Girl, but you just reminded me about how Stephanie Meyer AND EL James wrote a Edward/Christian focused book and it made even some of those characters stans say "wow this dude sucks"

It can work sometimes, but I guess I partially agree, in that I find it frustrating more often than I like it.

I think it tends to work better if it was the intention from jump, like ASOIAF.

I struggle a bit more when it's been from one POV for a long time and then bam, suddenly we're now seeing the series from someone else's POV, like the Twilight series.

I think if you do it well and the payoff is exciting/interesting, like Gone Girl, then it's brilliant.
But more times than not, it's not that well executed.

Lol this reminds me of reading Breaking Dawn in deepening horror: Bella basically dooming herself to a wedding she doesn't want, the messed-up sexual dynamics with her and Edward, the sudden baby reveal that to this day I say Stephenie Meyer was A LIAR, not some exactwords genius she thought she was. I was literally thinking "JFK how can this get worse-"

BAM. 200 pages of Jacob's boring bratty ass. I mean if you're gonna make an insane plot twist you then STAY WITH THE CHARACTER WHO'S IN THAT PLOT. It was a garbage fire but it could have been a tiny bit entertaining following the pregnant chick getting devoured from within and having some actual complicated communication with her husband (for once in the entire goddam series) instead of him sneaking behind her back to plot a forced abortion.

Pretty sure I know the group you're talking about. Even though I watch 9-1-1 (and Lonestar), I'm not that enamored with fic about it, not just from the group, but fandom-wide. I'll read it from the group, since I generally like their styles of writing and the story premises, but I'd rather be reading Harry Potter, Stargate, Teen Wolf, and/or NCIS fic from them.

Are you me, OP? I made the Buck the Turnip secret a few weeks ago because, yeah, it's all 9-1-1 all the time. The fandom has infected everyone! Even I've watched the show and I just don't get it.

it's weird because it is sorta copaganda, but the kind where there's like one good cop only lmao. it's most firefighter-ganda, which annoys me because it led to that "we use prisoners as firefighters" show like that's a good thing.

I know which group you're talking about and I think if you want to you can read the stories without having watched the show. I've seen comments from several people over the last couple of years who have been doing just that.

Kid A was one of my favorite albums when I was a deeply depressed teenager. Now that I'm 30+ years old and I'm in a better place I can't listen to any track of this album. :/

I do think that Radiohead, while incredibly talented, are a product of their time and they had not aged that well, apart from a few songs that are excellent by themselves. (I do think the same of Nirvana, that I liked way less than Radiohead) I think Kid A was one of the best albums of its time because it was somehow original and well thought.

In any case, it seems strange to me that music buff would have anything against your opinion. Like, you can NOT LIKE a genre or a group/musician of any sort. Taste in music is very personal and dependent on people's experiences. People who claim otherwise are idiots.
The problem is if you claim that you don't like Radiohead because "their music is shit and overrated". That's not OK.

What did you just watch?

Just watched the documentary 'Pretty Baby' on Netflix - about Brooke Shields. REALLY good, a bit sad, she's pretty amazing.
I remember when 'The Blue Lagoon' came out; my sis and I saw it at the beach when we were all visiting family, and omg, were we in love. She was just so perfectly gorgeous and so cute and the whole movie was pretty and dreamy and just very cool (we were 13 & 15).
