Thanks Secret Maker!

Pretty sure I know the group you're talking about. Even though I watch 9-1-1 (and Lonestar), I'm not that enamored with fic about it, not just from the group, but fandom-wide. I'll read it from the group, since I generally like their styles of writing and the story premises, but I'd rather be reading Harry Potter, Stargate, Teen Wolf, and/or NCIS fic from them.

I can't do fic for procedurals, even when I watch them. I couldn't do Criminal Minds fic, and now I don't do 911 or Lonestar fic. Even though I do ship one ship in each fairly strongly.

ayrt

I actually started reading fic in the 90s with the X-Files. And I've read fic for NCIS, CSI, Hawaii Five-0, The Magnificent Seven (yeah, it's actually more of a Western, but there are a lot of fics set in a modern ATF AU a fic author came up with), Psych, Without a Trace, and Due South among the many others, so it's not the procedural thing for me. Sometimes, for whatever reason, while I will watch and like a show, I just won't engage with the fic, but I'm not really sure why. Just didn't really go for the fic when I watched shows like Elementary, The Good Wife, Grey's Anatomy, Law & Order, Chicago Hope, Ally McBeal, ER, and most sit-coms, among others. I feel like there are a few that I went looking for fic for, but didn't find much or just not anything to my taste and gave up and never really went looking again.

This lady looks hot. Who is she?
I'm probably not going to watch 911 (I'm not into cop shows), but damn. Maybe I can hunt for some gif sets on tumblr...

That's Angela Bassett (What's Love Got to Do with It, How Stella Got her Groove Back, Black Panther movies) playing Athena Grant-Nash.

Are you me, OP? I made the Buck the Turnip secret a few weeks ago because, yeah, it's all 9-1-1 all the time. The fandom has infected everyone! Even I've watched the show and I just don't get it.

it's weird because it is sorta copaganda, but the kind where there's like one good cop only lmao. it's most firefighter-ganda, which annoys me because it led to that "we use prisoners as firefighters" show like that's a good thing.

It is also extremely over the top to the point there isn't much realism. I usually react strongly against copaganda these days. But these two shows are just so absurd that they feel different to me.

yeah how many disasters can la or austin take? it's the grey's anatomy school of story tension.

(Anonymous) 2023-04-06 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they've destroyed LA like three times by now.

I know which group you're talking about and I think if you want to you can read the stories without having watched the show. I've seen comments from several people over the last couple of years who have been doing just that.

I'm the type of person who can't really do that. :(
