As an American, I agree with most of those, but I have to explain the taxes.

We are basically fifty different countries in a trench coat. And within those fifty countries are several more counties and within the counties are cities. Each of those entities (trench coat, country, county, city) has its own tax, completely independent of the others. This means you cannot pre-make any advertising prices, especially for national chains or brands, that include the tax when the tax changes if you drive five miles away to the next county. So you advertise the selling price and let the tax take care of itself at the point of sale.
