There is no force on this earth that could make me like an anime gatcha game

It’s a lot like being a Transformers fan. There’s some good stuff there, as long as you’re willing to accept that it all exists To Sell Waifus: https://tfwiki.net/wiki/To_sell_toys

Yeah but I'm even more allergic to waifu stuff than I am to gacha stuff unfortunately

I have no familiar with the source material, but what makes him feel emasculated?

Same question! And in what ways does he over compensate? I like this character design

He’s a former knight turned corporate wage slave. He’s big on honor in his own way, and a lot of how that manifests is talking down to people whose honor is different from his. TV Tropes: “At one point, he's lecturing Maria about how the Nearl family can hold onto their ideals without bowing to the whims of the corporations, before a call from his employer who belongs to those corporations reduces him to a simpering apologetic dog. As soon as the phone call ends, he goes right back to lecturing Maria.” His big rebellion ends up being that he finally uses his vacation leave that he hasn’t touched in ten years. He talks about how he has no home or family, even though his relatives put up with bullshit. He lectures the protagonist about how they’re going to accomplish nothing and get a bunch of people killed, but he still fights for them and can’t seem to admit their idealism has appealed to him in some way. Despite being pseudo-Polish, he gives me this “lone ronin” vibe, and I feel like, you know you’re not actually this cool edgy loner, right?

Thank you for the excellent response, OP! I laugh at the dramatic irony, but also ouch, what a situation to be in. It's a fascinating character dynamic for sure, but strange that people seem to miss the dramatic irony.

Do people think he's the pinnacle of masculinity? I see more of people constantly making jokes about how he's a tired, wage slave uncle who manages to act like he's bitterly divorced despite not even having a GF.

I guess people do consider him manly because his DPS is huge. And giant horse dick jokes are also common...

I think some of it is people who want any manly man and are bending Mlynar to fit. (Mountain is right there, but I guess furries have cooties.)
