Italian American tiny me adored cartoons of all kinds and the Sesame Street Muppets.

A few years later, I learned how to serve myself cold cereal and milk. Saturdays were phenomenal.

Cartoons have been truly epic for me ever since.

I recently came to the realization that I crave pizzas (especially frozen) specifically on Fridays is due to me enjoying Friday nights as a kid. Friday nights to eat junk food and watch TV or be on the internet all night either talking on the phone with my best friend or chatting on AOL with her ♡

Aww, I feel you, OP. I lived for Saturday morning cartoons and, even though I was an adult when it happened, I got really sad when they stopped airing them. I’ve been rewatching some of my childhood favorites on various streaming sites, but it just doesn’t feel the same.

But mostly for me (in the 70s/80s) it was watching (weird) british (and sometimes Canadian) kids shows in the evenings on channel 2 (which is now the ABC).

TV-Globinho was this for me! I miss it a lot, but, I get most kids nowadays don't watch tv anymore ( from what I've seen from my nieces and nephew at least.)

In the US, we had Saturday mornings cartoons and some of those were pretty weird - Meatballs & Spaghetti, Trollkins, The Pac-Man Show, and Monchichis (here's the opening for it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gq2_BKd2RYI). Still, I remember it with nostalgia and now there's a bunch of animal and learning programs, which there is absolutely nothing wrong with, it's just not the same.

The ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corp) had the best shows when I was a kid, from anime, to Round the Twist, and cool shows about aliens from New Zealand! And then there was The Goodies, Monkey, Dr Who, and more!

I want to give you a massive hug or do something to let you know you deserve kindness in your life.

I've always (always) felt massively fat and physically ugly. It didn't help that the older I got I kept getting fatter.

At my fattest (US size 24, 278~lbs) was when I finally became much kinder to myself. I honestly don't know how it all began but all I know is that when I see pictures of myself as a kid, I barely notice the size of my body. I see a kid, just a kid, who deserved to be told as they are they are enough. It breaks my heart all over again that I felt so ugly and unworthy. Those insecure feelings of feeling so uncomfortably fat and sweaty and ugly still feel so fresh when I look at pictures of younger me, yet looking at the picture I see a kid who is just as deserving of being an awesome person as a skinny/more put together kid.

For me, I learned that even if I am fat I deserve to have my life be taken just as seriously as anyone else. I don't need to be a certain size or weight to finally be deserving of basic human respect and to be deserving of seeking my own personal fulfillment in life.

I know people aren't looking for a preaching "love yourself" message...but often I feel fat people and fatness don't get taken seriously and it's easy to be dismissive of our voices and experiences, especially if it clashes with our very pro-thin world. And I don't think fat acceptance is instantly/only "love yourself/love fat bodies". Fat acceptance is accepting that fat people exist and some of our needs are unique to us and it should be taken seriously. The public/strangers don't have a right to make a spectacle of a fat body just because it's not "normal".

Someone whose works and advocacy I found super helpful is Aubrey Gordon. Discovered her through her podcast "Maintenance Phase". She's written books and essays about fat advocacy. If anyone is interested, her writings and works are great resources.

Huh, as a fat 90s teen who grew into a fat adult who read (and reads) a ton of fantasy, I can't think of a single book or series I read where weight loss was a side effect of using magic.

I'd love to be able to magically change my self in general, though (executive function actually functions, no more cavities, cancer risk = 0, bye bye migraines, gonna grow wings and fly to work) and not just lose weight, so I get that.

And if weight loss was an unavoidable side effect of using magic, fat people would actually have an advantage other than potentially longer famine survival. Maybe the stigma against being fat would even ease (yeah, right.)

I don't know about the gatcha side of things. But I think there are a few key reasons that MTG fans accept bans.

One, MTG players basically buy into the idea of having balanced competitive environments. MTG players generally don't want to play in degenerate formats, so the idea that some cards need to be banned to prevent those kinds of formats is acceptable to them.

Two, WOTC takes affordability into account when banning cards. They'll try to shape their bans in a way that preserves the secondary market value of cards as much as possible. In fact, WOTC is generally very aware of secondary market values across the board and is very committed to preserving them. It's a major factor in what cards they print as well.

Three, MTG fans generally seem to think that WOTC tries to avoid printing cards that will need to be banned, and isn't taking advantage of them by pushing power cards that they know will be a problem and then banning them later. This is wrong, IMO - WOTC isn't actually acting in good faith. But MTG players generally think they are. At least, that's what they thought when I stopped paying attention to MTG 3 or 4 years ago.
